What Every Symbol on Your Panasonic Remote Means

iAUTO-X and the Performance Buttons

iAUTO-X, also shown as STRONG COOL on some remotes, is available on CS-Z and CS-HZ premium models only. Pressing it drops the room temperature by roughly 2°C below your set target for up to four hours, using dual motorised flaps that direct cold air downward first for rapid cooling, then adjust upward to avoid a direct cold draft. It is designed for a hot room that needs cooling quickly, not for ongoing use.

POWERFUL increases compressor output and fan speed to reach your set temperature faster. On current CS-Z, CS-RZ, and CS-HZ models it cancels automatically after 20 minutes. On older CS-E and earlier CS-Z models it can run for up to four hours before cancelling. On some older models, POWERFUL is disabled entirely in Dry and Fan only modes.

ECO shares the same button as POWERFUL on most remotes, toggling between the two. ECO limits power consumption for lower running costs during moderate weather.

QUIET drops the indoor fan to its lowest speed to reduce noise. It also reduces heating and cooling capacity. The human activity sensor scans the room for movement and body heat, covering roughly 120 degrees vertically and 7 metres horizontally. It distinguishes between someone active in the room, someone present but still, and an empty room. The sunlight sensor separately measures how much light is coming through the windows.

Based on what the sensors detect, the system shifts the target temperature in the background. In cooling, low activity shifts the target up by roughly 1°C to save energy, and an empty room for over 20 minutes shifts it up by roughly 2°C. In heating, high activity shifts the target down to prevent overheating, and a sunny room shifts it down slightly. If the room stays empty for three hours, the system switches to a low-power fan-only state.

None of these background shifts change what the remote display shows. The screen keeps showing your original set temperature and mode even while ECONAVI is quietly adjusting the actual target, and even once the system has dropped into fan-only after an extended absence the display can still read Cooling or Heating. This is normal behaviour, not a fault, and it is one of the most common reasons owners assume ECONAVI has stopped working when it has not.

ECONAVI has some limitations worth knowing. A thick curtain over a window can block the sunlight sensor's reading. The system is not recommended in rooms occupied only by infants or people with limited mobility, since minimal movement can be read as an empty room. Selecting manual air swing cancels ECONAVI immediately, and it cannot run at the same time as iAUTO-X or Mild Dry cooling on models that offer those functions.

AIR SWING and nanoe X

The AIR SWING button controls the motorised horizontal louver and vertical vanes. Never adjust these by hand. Panasonic's documentation warns that manual adjustment damages the internal stepper motor alignment, the same warning found across every other brand sold in NZ.

Running the airflow angled steeply downward for long periods in Cool or Dry mode can cause condensation to form on the outlet and drip onto furniture below. nanoe X, fitted to CS-Z and CS-HZ models, and its predecessor nanoe-G on CS-E models, are air purification functions that run independently of heating and cooling. Pressing the nanoe button while the unit is stopped turns it into a standalone air purifier, running the fan at low speed with the louvers swinging. A soft buzzing or fizzing sound during operation is normal and can be switched off on the remote if it bothers you.

After a cooling or dry cycle ends, some models run the fan at low speed for 30 minutes to dry internal moisture, then close the flap and run a two-hour nanoe sanitising cycle inside the unit. Do not disconnect power during this cycle.

Sleep Mode and the Timer's Comfort Start-Up

The SLEEP button dims the indoor unit's panel lights and gradually adjusts the set temperature over a period you choose, from 0.5 to 9 hours in wireless-remote models. The TIMER ON and TIMER OFF buttons schedule the unit to switch on or off automatically.
