Families spending significant money on heat pumps, ventilation systems, and solar panels. Systems designed to deliver warmth, clean air, and lower bills for 15 to 20 years. The installation finishes, the paperwork gets signed, and the relationship ends completely.The homeowner gets no maintenance guidance and no follow-up scheduled. Just a warranty that covers manufacturing faults and a user manual nobody reads.
The pattern was consistent. Heat pumps running hard against internal coils that hadn't been cleaned in years. Ventilation systems carrying mould through every room in the house. Solar panels losing 15 to 25 percent of their output because no one had washed them since installation.
An industry that doesn't mention maintenance created this outcome.
How the industry is structured
Servicing, where it exists at all, fills time between installation jobs. It keeps the company in contact with homeowners who will eventually need a replacement unit or want to upgrade.
The other gap sits at the point of sale. When a new system is installed, the technician hands over a user manual and leaves. Ongoing professional maintenance is rarely mentioned. Raising it would add complexity to a transaction that's already done.
The result is a large number of heat pumps, ventilation systems, and solar installations across Auckland that have never had a professional service since the day they went in.
