Ducted systems in New Zealand use flexible ductwork joined with foil tape, rather than the rigid sealed ducting used in most other markets. Flexible ducting is cheaper to install and easier to route through ceiling cavities. That is why it became the NZ default. It is also less durable, less airtight, and more vulnerable to damage than rigid ducting.
