Complete ducted heat pump maintenance that reaches every component, measures the result, and leaves a written record
Whether it's a smell being blown through every room, uneven heating, a power bill that keeps climbing, or a system that's simply never been professionally serviced, MiHT goes further. Every Restore is measured before and after. You see the result in writing.

Three Things a Professional Service Protects.
The air your family breathes in every room. A ducted system circulates air through your entire home from a single unit. When mould and dust build up inside that unit, the air it produces passes through what has accumulated there before it reaches any room. A filter catches surface dust. It does not reach the internal components where the buildup lives.
The ductwork carrying conditioned air to every room. The ducting running through your ceiling carries warm or cool air from the central unit to each vent. When joins loosen and air leaks into the ceiling cavity, your system works harder to compensate. That effort shows on your power bill before it shows as an obvious performance problem. A Restore inspects every accessible join and reseals any that have come apart.
The outdoor unit your whole home depends on. A ducted system heats and cools every room from one outdoor unit. When the internal components are not maintained, that outdoor unit carries a heavier load every time it runs. Keeping the system clean and efficient is the most direct way to protect the one component that, if it fails, takes every room with it.
We maintain your ducted system. We do not sell or install new units.
How a MiHT Ducted System Restore Works
Ducted systems heat and cool your whole home from a single unit sitting in your ceiling. That makes them more complex than a wall unit and harder to maintain without professional help. Most of the system is invisible from inside your home. A MiHT Ducted System Restore covers all of it in a single visit.
Assess
Before any cleaning begins, your technician photographs the system and documents what they find. For ducted systems this includes the return air grille, the roof cavity, accessible duct runs, and the outdoor condenser. You see the starting point. Nothing is assumed and nothing is hidden.
Treat
A ducted system heats and cools your whole home from a single unit sitting in your ceiling. One system doing the work of every room. We service it from the point air enters to the point it reaches each room.
The return grille and filter:
Where all the air from your home comes back to be reheated or recooled. We clean the grille and clean or replace the filter behind it.
The ceiling unit:
Where the air is actually heated or cooled before travelling to each room. We clean the internal components the air passes through. This is where buildup accumulates and where a filter clean never reaches.
The ductwork:
The ducts carry conditioned air to each room. Joints can loosen over time and air leaks into the ceiling cavity instead of reaching the room it was meant for. We inspect every accessible joint and reseal any that have come apart.
The drain:
In cooling mode the ceiling unit produces water that needs to drain out of the house. A blockage causes water to overflow inside your ceiling. We clear it on every visit.
The ceiling vents and outdoor unit:
We wipe down every ceiling vent throughout the home. We wash down the outdoor unit and clear any debris around it. The outdoor unit produces the heating and cooling for your entire home. Keeping it clear keeps the whole system running efficiently.
Monitor
After every visit you receive a written condition report with before and after photographs, a classification of every finding, and clear next steps. Annual Care Plan customers leave with their next visit already booked. We track your system's condition over time and catch problems before they become failures.
What happens if we find something?
Every finding from your visit appears in your condition report with a clear action against it. Some things are taken care of on the day as part of the standard service. Some need a return visit to address properly. We will offer to book that before we leave. Some are outside our scope entirely. We document those with photographs so you have everything you need to take to a qualified specialist. And some are worth watching but not urgent. We note those and recheck them at your next visit.
From $375.
Not sure where your system stands?
The NZ Ducted System Problem Most Homeowners Have Never Been Told About.
The joins between those tubes are sealed with tape during installation. That tape is not permanent. Over time it loosens and air that should be reaching your rooms leaks out before it arrives. Your system is still running but a portion of what it produces never reaches you.
There is no way to detect this from inside your home. The rooms still warm up, eventually. Most homeowners assume the system is just getting older. The heating bill keeps climbing and nobody knows why.
During a MiHT Restore your technician enters the ceiling space or accesses the underfloor cavity, checks the ducting, and reseals any joins that have come apart. This is included as standard in every Ducted System Restore.
What You Receive After Every Service.
Every MiHT Ducted System Restore includes a written condition report delivered after the visit. The report documents what was assessed, what was found, what was done, and any items classified for follow-up. It is not a generic service summary. It is a specific record of your system's condition on the day of the service.
Before-and-after photographs of all serviced components
Triage classification for every significant finding ( Re-visit, Refer, or Monitor)
Written recommendations for any items requiring follow-up, with clear guidance on next steps
Condition notes on any faults or issues outside MiHT's scope, documented for your installer.
A record of system condition at the time of service - useful for warranty purposes, insurance, or property records

How Would You Like Us to Look After Your System?
If your system has never been professionally serviced, start with a One-Off Restore. If you want your system looked after year after year without having to think about it, an ongoing care plan is the better option. Here is how to choose
Annual Care Plan: Scheduled once per year. Recommended for all ducted systems in year-round use. The annual visit includes a full duct integrity check, which is the most effective way to catch joint separation before it affects performance.
Biennial Care Plan: Scheduled every two years. Suitable for systems used seasonally or in low-occupancy properties. Note that duct integrity can deteriorate between biennial visits in older installations.
One-Off Restore: The right starting point if your system has never been professionally serviced or you want to know exactly what condition it is in. From $375. Includes the full service and a written condition report. No ongoing commitment required.
Not sure which system you have?
If you have two or more indoor units running from a single outdoor unit, that is a multi-split system. See multi-split heat pump maintenance →

A full MiHT Ducted System Restore starts from $375. This covers the complete service described in the How It Works section above, including roof cavity access, inspection of the duct network, cleaning of the internal components, and checking every vent throughout the home. Pricing is confirmed at booking. There are no hidden charges or callout fees. You can view full pricing and book online at a time that suits you.
Annual servicing is the standard for ducted systems in year-round use. The combination of the roof-cavity environment, flexible ductwork, and internal air handler accumulation means ducted systems degrade faster than wall units without professional care. In coastal Auckland, where salt carried in the air accelerates wear on the outdoor unit, annual servicing is particularly important. Lightly used or seasonal systems can extend to biennial servicing, though older installations with flexible ductwork benefit from more frequent inspection. Not sure when your system was last serviced? The Home Energy Health Assessment can help you work out where things stand.
A ducted system can run for years in a degraded state without failing completely. The signs are gradual: rooms that take longer to reach temperature, uneven heating between zones, a slight stale smell on startup, or power bills that increase slowly without an obvious cause. None of these trigger an alarm. They accumulate. By the time the performance drop is obvious, the internal components and ductwork have often been in a deteriorated state for years. Annual professional servicing identifies and addresses these issues before they become visible. If you are unsure whether your system needs attention, the Home Energy Health Assessment takes about three minutes and gives you a clear picture.
Yes. MiHT is brand agnostic. We service all brands used in NZ residential ducted installations, including Daikin, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, and Panasonic. Our service process is the same regardless of brand. You can book your service online regardless of brand or installation company.

A ducted system service is more complex than a wall unit clean. It requires roof cavity access, duct network inspection, checking of zone controls, and servicing of multiple vents throughout the home. The MiHT Restore takes two to four hours and addresses failure points that a wall unit service does not involve. The cost reflects the scope of the work, not a premium on the service type. See what a full Ducted System Restore includes for a detailed breakdown of the nine-step service.
Ducted systems in New Zealand use flexible ductwork joined with foil tape, rather than the rigid sealed ducting used in most other markets. Flexible ducting is cheaper to install and easier to route through ceiling cavities. That is why it became the NZ default. It is also less durable, less airtight, and more vulnerable to damage than rigid ducting. Over time, taped joins loosen, conditioned air leaks into the ceiling cavity, and system performance declines. Rodents can also damage flexible ducting in roof cavities, creating holes that allow roof air into the distribution system. This is one of the most commonly overlooked factors in ducted system performance and one of the reasons professional inspection matters more for NZ ducted systems than for systems overseas. Book a Ducted System Restore to have your ductwork assessed.
Uneven heating is one of the most common ducted system complaints in NZ homes, and it has multiple possible causes. Duct separations or splits can reduce airflow to specific zones. A damper that fails to open correctly delivers no air to that room. Blocked supply vents restrict delivery at the room level. A dirty internal unit reduces total system output and affects the zones furthest from it most noticeably. A MiHT Restore addresses all of these. If the issue persists after a full service, we will note it in your service report and advise on next steps.
Yes. A ducted system running with dirty internal components or compromised ductwork draws more power to achieve the same result. If your heat pump is powered by solar generation, an inefficient system reduces the effective value of that generation and increases your reliance on grid power. Keeping your ducted system at peak efficiency is directly relevant to your solar ROI and your ability to maximise energy independence. If you have both a ducted system and solar panels, the Home Energy Health Assessment covers both and shows you where the biggest gains are.
