Hitachi heat pump service, cleaning and maintenance in Auckland
If your Hitachi heat pump hasn't been serviced in the last 12 months, or you've noticed a smell, weaker airflow, or a power bill that's climbed without cause, get in touch. We'll talk through what it needs before you book anything.

Is this the right service for your situation?
Your Hitachi heat pump hasn't had a professional clean in the last year. Hitachi asks owners to clean their filters about every two weeks. Filters alone don't reach the coil, fins, drain system, or the outdoor unit's mounting hardware. An unserviced unit can lose 10 to 25 percent of its operating efficiency over time.
It's running but airflow feels weak or there's a smell. A blocked filter or a coated coil can cut airflow and heating efficiency well before it's obvious from the remote. Hitachi's outdoor unit runs a fan-reverse cycle to blow surface dust off the heat exchanger when stopped, but that doesn't reach the coil or fins from the inside. A proper service does.
Your Hitachi has FrostWash and you're relying on it. FrostWash only activates once the unit has logged 42 hours of runtime, run for at least 30 minutes, and sensed no one in the room for 15 minutes. Hitachi's own manual states FrostWash doesn't wash away all dust and dirt. Some models also run a 60-minute Mold Guard drying cycle, which can temporarily raise room temperature and humidity while it operates. Useful, but neither replaces a full service.
What a Hitachi Heat Pump Restore includes
A full clean addresses buildup filter cleaning alone can't reach: the coil, the fins, and the drain system. A well-serviced unit should show a gap of at least 8 to 10 degrees between return air and discharge in cooling mode. We measure this before and after every visit as proof the service worked. It also includes the outdoor unit's mounting frame condition and the electrical connections Hitachi flags as safety checks.
Included in our full heat pump maintenance service.
Coil and fin clean
the coil and fins are cleaned to restore airflow and heat transfer.
Safety and mounting check
the outdoor unit's mounting frame is checked for rust, tilt or instability, and electrical connections are confirmed secure.
Filter assessment
filters are cleaned where possible, and replacement is flagged if they can no longer be cleaned effectively.
Written condition report
photos, before-and-after notes, and a plain-English summary of the unit's condition, sent after the visit.
Common questions about Hitachi heat pump service
How often should a Hitachi heat pump be serviced?
Does FrostWash replace a professional service?
No. FrostWash only activates once the unit has logged 42 hours of runtime, run for at least 30 minutes, and detected no one in the room for 15 minutes. Hitachi's own manual states FrostWash doesn't wash away all dust and dirt, so it isn't a substitute for a full service.
What does the Hitachi warranty require?
Hitachi's residential range carries a six-year warranty, on condition the unit is maintained according to the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations. Regular filter cleaning and a professional service are how you meet that condition.
What safety checks does a Hitachi service include?
Hitachi's own guidance calls out three checks specifically. The earth line is confirmed connected correctly to prevent electric shock. The outdoor unit's mounting frame is checked for rust, tilt or instability, and the power plug connection is confirmed secure with no loose contacts.
What if my Hitachi heat pump needs a repair, not a service?
If the unit won't start, or a fault persists after a service, that's a repair rather than a service. Book a repair diagnosis instead and we'll confirm what's wrong before anything's booked.
