A Healthy Homes compliance statement is a written declaration a landlord must give a tenant at or before the start of every new or renewed tenancy. It states how the property currently meets, or doesn't meet, each of the five Healthy Homes Standards. It's a legal requirement, and providing one late, inaccurately, or not at all is treated as its own breach at the Tenancy Tribunal, separate from any physical non-compliance. Inaccurate statements are treated more harshly than missing ones, since an inaccurate statement suggests the landlord either didn't check what they certified or certified compliance they knew didn't exist. Tenants can formally request compliance information at any time, and landlords must respond within 21 days.
